Free JUly Embroidery - Bees!

I thought since I quickly finished up the pansy pattern I'd do some quick freebies for the rest of the year and they will all have a bee in them!  I've always loved bees so it was easy to do a series of bees zooming around easy to stitch words. Bee Kind is my favorite. I usually wear a cute ball cap with an embroidered bee and the words on it. It's fun to wear to farm markets and other outdoor events.

These would make great patches stitched on felt. I think I'll be adding them to a tote bag.

As always I back the fabric with Pellon Shape Flex.

Then trace the pattern including the rectangle unless you don't want it.

I'll be using the same threads for all of the designs but have fun and do what you like.

-I used DMC 310 black to do the word with 2 strands in very short back stitch.

-The flowers are not on the pattern since they are just simple lazy daisy and french knots. I used 2 strands DMC 827 to make the forget me not flowers. The centers are 2 strands of DMC 745 yellow. I used 2 strands and did 3 wraps. The leavers are DMC 704 green. I used 2 strands to make the lazy daisy stitches.

-The x's are 2 strands of the blue and yellow.

-The bee is outlined in 1 strand of black. The lines across the body are couched or back stitched. To fill in the body you can use long or short straight stitches. I used 2 strands of black and 743 yellow.  The eyes are 2 wrap french knots. The bee dash lines and the antennae are 1 strand black.

-The rectangle is back stitched with 2 strands of black. Make them long enough for you to wrap. Use 3 strands of the blue thread to wrap the back stitches.

That's it, hope you like these quick little designs. BTW, I drew these by hand, even the words. So if you prefer switch out your own printing for mine.

Here's the pattern:

New embroidery pattern at Etsy

I started making this set and 4 others during covid lockdown. The words seemed to need to be embroidered to me. Here's the link to the pattern. wish-imagine pattern

Of course instead of a banner you can skip the triangles and frame the hearts or do them as quilt blocks for a wall hanging. There are 10 hearts all together.

I'll list the next one when I finish writing the directions. Now that this one is done the rest will go faster.

Sale at Etsy Store

It's Christmas in July! I'm not really a fan of seeing holiday decorations at this time of year but I also know some people need to get started on gifts and decorations so I've put a selection of winter/Christmas patterns on sale for 20% off until August 4.

I'll be listing some new items this week at Etsy and over at Patreon. I have a new embroidery pattern and some free tatting patterns to list.

Fixed the tatted heart PDF

After finding the original PDF I put up at my patreon site was a mess I re-did it with charts. I think charts are so much easier to follow than written instructions. So far this tatting pattern and one for a fabric basket are up for free. There's no charge to sign up at patreon so it's all free.

info on my Patreon site and more

I finally got around to posting something at my Patreon site. I've put this off for almost a year but I had everything ready to go today to get the last embroidery directions up and decided to stop putting dealing with Patreon. Here's the free pattern I listed.

I designed this tatted heart pattern in the 90's and used to have it up at my old tripod site. I closed that and all the free patterns went away. Now I plan on putting them up at Patreon for free. Later I may add a pay for membership but for now everything will be free. These hearts make cute pins and ornaments. perfect to make and give as gifts. Below is the link.

My Patreon link

This site, NeedlenThread ,is my go to when I need inspiration. It's also a good place to see lots of embroidery stitches. I like it so much I recently joined Mary's Patreon site. I want to work on my straight stitch blending and know that working some of her projects will help.

We're working on corn flowers, which I've always called bachelor buttons, and it's been a nice break for me but of course it makes me fall behind in my other projects.

This is a picture of some things I've done. The felt and embroidered panda is from a painting class given by willowing.org. Tam has the most inspiring classes but when I saw this one I knew I had to do my own version in felt and embroidery.

The turquoise this is supposed to be a macrame leaf. I made it after taking a free class called making zen. I used to macrame a lot so it was fun to have a go again.

The felt heart is one I designed. It's going to have a bee or butterfly button added to it. I'm liking working with felt and have more than a few projects I'm designing. I'll tell you about one project, it's gnome girls! They will be another in my line of pincushions.

Here's the rest of the Pansy embroidery

I know I've been so behind is posting this year. It's just been one crazy thing after another with the worst being having a cousin die suddenly at the end of May. This month hasn't been good either, and  definitely feel worn out emotionally. So I decided to finish the embroidery and put it up. For the rest of the year I have small designs I'll list for you.

The last stitch was for May and it was chain stitch for the stems done in DMC 936. I did stripes for the circle section.

June's stitch was for the center of the flowers. Using 2 strands of DMC 17 to fill in the small areas with straight stitches. Again I did stripes but short wide ones for the circle section.

July's stitch is for the 4 center flower petals. I did lazy daisy stitch using 2 shades of purple to fill in the areas. I used 3 strands of 550 for 2 petals and 3 strands of 552 for the other 2 petals. I decided on 2 shades so the stitches didn't blend into one large piece instead of showing 4 petals. I used both purples to make standing lazy daisy stitches that varied in size.

August was the outer petals of the pansys. I used 3 strands of DMC 25 to fill in the areas with buttonhole stitch. For the circle section I did 3 half circles of the stitch.

September was to be wide fern stitch on the wings of the butterfly. I used 3 strands of DMC 783. You could just straight stitch the lines. The circle section has a line of regular width fern stitch.

October is the French Knots scattered along the fern stitch. I used 3 strands of DMC 310 black to make 2 wrap knots. The circle section has a few knots.

November is also done in the black floss. Use 3 strands to make a bullion stitch the length of the body. Then I used 1 strands to make straight stitches for the antennae. The circle section is 3 bullions joined with 2 straight stitches.

December is the very simple running stitch for the dashed lines. I used 1 strand of black. The circle section has 2 lines of the stitch.

That's it! Change the stitches, the colors, just have fun with it.

Finally- the May stitch

If you've been reading my blog you know it's been a weird year for me but I finally took some pics of the next embroidery.

The center of the flowers are just straight stitch but you could fill the space in with french knots. I used 2 strands of  DMC 3078.  Fill in the circle space with simple stripes of straight stitch.

The petals are lazy daisy stitch. I used 2 strands of DMC 550 for 2 petals and 552 for the other 2. I didn't want the petals to blend so I used 2 colors of purple. Fill in the bottom circle with lazy daisy stitches in a stripe or however you like.

The next color I'll be using is one of the newer DMC colors, number 25. It's a very light purple. I've chose these purples based on pansys I have growing.

I came across this in an email from Ann Wood, who by the way has some fantastic bird patterns and good emails. I'm bookmarking it so I can make one if I ever find the time. ha,ha,ha,ha.... finding time...like that will happen any time soon 😄

BTW, don't forget about the 20% off sale for the month of May at my Etsy store!

About the next free embroidery and SALE at etsy

Yet another month of craziness. This time it was the kitchen facet. It had been dripping for a while but the DH just didn't want to deal with it until I finally whined enough and he started working on it at the end of April. As usual it became a mess. It's not that he can't fix things, it's that Moen said they'd send out free replacement cartridges, and that took a week. Since the DH had the sink tore apart that meant no water in the kitchen :( but luckily I have a garden sink off the porch. So off I went carting dishes over the porch, down the steps, and over to the sink to wash, and then back inside. Food prep meant taking veg outside to wash. For meat and eggs I wore gloves that got washed the next trip to the sink.

After a week the cartridges came and after a few hours the hot and cold were installed. Guess what? It now leaked at the base of the facet so they said they'd ship out a replacement for it. Another week of washing outside and we were getting tired of it. The DH was ready to go buy a new non-Moen facet.

When the next cartridge came we couldn't get the old one out to put the new one in and the various people we talked to on the cell had no suggestions other than paying $25 for shipping and they'd airship a new facet. When it didn't arrive in 3 days we found that ups had no paperwork for it and Moen insisted they sent it. Moen sent out another and it came yesterday. Who knows where the lost one is.

On Sunday another calamity hit. The cold water handle on the outdoor sink popped and we couldn't turn it off. The DH attached the garden hose with a sprayer to it since it was late and the hardware store was closed. That night I did dishes in a basin in a bathtub and of course I had a lot of dishes.

Monday the DH fixed the garden sink pretty easily but of course taking the old kitchen facet completely out didn't go easy but at least it's in.

With all this I just haven't been spending much time online. The next embroidery is down but I need to take a pic of it. I'm thinking I'll do a few sections to end this one soon.

BTW, May is my birthday month so I put everything in the etsy shop on sale for 20% off.

The April free embroidery and why it's so late

I've had a crazy few months. First I changed internet suppliers and that became a HUGE mistake. I got rid of them after a few weeks. I smashed a finger which kept me from doing all the embroidery and tatting I've been working on. Then came the regular flu for a week. Next was having no gas. That meant no furnace, stove, hot water, or dryer. From all the days and days of rain the gas line cracked and had to be replaced. That was the worst. It all meant even when I did have internet I wasn't feeling well enough to get online. The stress really wore me out.

So here's April's results. I beginning to think that this project is probably not to many embroiderers liking. We'll finish it but next year back to fun pieces.

April's stitch is the herringbone. Follow the photo for the sections it should be done in and the direction of the stitches. Notice that they are some what close together. There is no tracing for these stitches. If you need the full pattern go to the Jan. post.

I used 3 strands of DMC 581 to fill in the 5 areas.

The March embroidery freebie

This is yet another agro month and I'm way over stressed. It didn't help that the mouse I use with my laptop died and the new one I bought was broke! I tried different batteries but no luck so I'm using an old mouse with a cord :(  Looks like this is another crap year. Hope it changes and gets better.

You'll notice that the photo shows that I did arrow stitch to fill in the next spaces but the chart below shows lines for couching. You can do which ever you like! Here's a drawing for arrow stitch in ase you don't know what it is. BTW, I used 3 strands DMC 3347. If you decide to do couching you may want to use a second color. I suggest using a Frixon pen to draw any lines you may need.

Right click the pattern to save it to your hard drive. You'll need to print a pattern for tracing. No need to print if you have already printed it from previous months.

Shuttle Tatting - The Magic Thread Trick

Have you heard of this? I stopped tatting probably about 6-7 years ago and just started again after finishing my new tatted quilt patterns. I found Noo Bear on you tube while researching tatting onion rings because I forgot how to do them and I'm working on some new patterns. This is SO great. Love her youtubes and even bought her pattern for Butterfly kisses at etsy.

I really need to relearn some of the tatting stitches I used to make and this was really pretty. I kinda got stuck in making the squares I use for most of the quilts and got bored. That's why I stopped tatting but still kept designing patterns. Yarnplayer at Etsy also has some good patterns and beautiful threads. I've bought them so I can recommend the threads.

Beyond late but here's the Feb freebie

I've had a rough few weeks but at last here's this month's embroidery. This time we're filling these section s in with lattice stitch. You can trace the lines or do your own. It's really easier to do it free hand. I used DMC floss, 2 strands 895 for the long stitches and 1 strand 3346 to hold them in place.

Print the pattern whatever size you like.

BTW, the free yearly TAST has started. Learn 2 embroidery stitches a week https://pintangle.com/  Great for beginners and those who already embroider.

2024 Freebie Embroidery Starting and it's different

OK, here it is, the 2024 free embroidery. Over the year each month we'll fill in the design with different stitches. This is a good way to learn new stitches. You can always fill in the design with any stitches you like.

1. For January you need to copy the entire design on fabric of your choice. I used an 8" x 8" piece of white cotton fabric.

This step in optional but I like the stability. I add a square of Pelon Shape Flex interfacing. This is my favorite to use for all my embroidery designs because it's not stiff and it's easy to embroider thru. I cut the square of it slightly smaller the the entire piece.

Most important!!  If you went ahead and traced the birdhouse do not use steam this can smear your tracing. I've used Pigma pens and had them smear slightly. Note: I never use steam to apply the interfacing and it sticks fine.

2.Using a permanent marker like a Pigma pen or a Pilot Frixon pen, trace the design.

Note that the Frixon pen will disappear when heat is applied. This is great if you made a mistake, just iron the fabric and start again.

3. To embroider the design use DMC 310 black floss. You can use 1 or 2 strands. It all depends on how thick you want the lines. I used 2 strands.

-The 2 circles are stem stitched but the short lines are back stitched.

-The flowers, stems, leaves, and butterfly wings are back stitched. Do not do the butterfly body, antennae.

- The dash lines are done with 1 strand of floss using a running stitch.

Print the pattern whatever size you like.
