October Free Embroidery

Sorry this is late but at least I am getting it up. It's been busy and I just kept putting it off. There have been a lot of free art classes lately, too. I make the time to watch them but don't have time to do any of the art. Very frustrating! Lifebook2023 taster sessions are going on till the 9th. Hopefully Tam will extend them another week so I might be able to do a few classes.

If you want to do other free embroidery designs you'll find one for each month.

Here are the directions for October's freebie.

1. Cut a square of your background fabric 4 1/4" x 4 1/4". If you aren't adding borders like I did you should cut the fabric larger so it will fit in your embroidery hoop.

2. Using a permanent fine tip marker like a Pigma pen, trace the designs. For the flowers skip the dots. You can also skip the grass lines and just stitch them where you want them. The leaves can be marked with a dot at the tip and at the stem.

3. Add the corner triangles. I did a blanket stitch along the edges that won't be covered with the borders.

4. Add the borders following the directions in the freebie posted in February.

5. Starting with the stems use 2 strands of floss (I used DMC 702) to back stitch on the lines. You can also substitute stem stitch.

6. Next are the leaves. I used 2 strands of floss to do small lazy daisy stitches (I used DMC 702).

7. For the grass use 2 strands to back stitch or straight stitch each blade (I used DMC 704).

8.The rose are made with 2 strands of floss (I used DMC 601) to make the spokes. Use all 6 strands to weave.

9. You can do French knots for the dots or use seed beads like I am

10. Optional: add clusters of buttons or beads on the triangles.

Free October embroidery pattern

Sorry this is late but if you read my previous post you'll know why. The heart has beads sewn next to chain stitch. The pumpkin is filled with herringbone stitch. The bat and spider are buttons.

Right click the pattern to save it to your hard drive. You'll need to print a pattern for tracing. You may want 2 patterns printed if you plan of using fabric for the pumpkin sections.

Free September Embroidery pattern

Only 1 day late! It's been really extreme around here. Sunday was the DH's birthday, Monday was our anniversary, and on top of that my sweet Dillon is not doing well at all. His vet put him on tranzene which is an old time nerve pill. I know all about it cause I was on it a long time ago. I had to take half the child's dosage most of the time so I wouldn't fall asleep. My poor baby was sleeping so much and so sound we thought he had died a few times. After 2 seizures last week we were willing to try anything. Tests aren't showing anything major so again it's all a mystery which sucks. Personally I think it's the meds he gets for fleas, ticks, and  heartworm. I truely believe that stuff is what caused my sweet Spice girl to have them and probably even Murphy. NOT a fan of any chemicals of any kind! Ok thanks for listening but back to this month's embroidery.

I made small yo-yos for the centers of the sunflowers but  the circle could be filled in with french knots or buttonhole stitch.

Surprise! It's the free June embroidery!

I know you're surprised that I got this up right at the beginning of the month. I decided to go with the theme June weddings. This would make a cute shower gift for the bride. Embroider it in her wedding colors and instead of 'June' use their initials, the year, or you may be able to squeeze in the date numbers.

Of course you can make this with both birds the same. Skip all the decorations on the birds and have them holding a charm or other item where their becks meet. Instead of all the French knots use tiny seed beads. I used narrow silk ribbon for his bow tie and her bow at the tail.

I'm not sure what fabric I'll sew this embroidery to so the photo shows 3 but I'm already thinking I'll not use any of them and instead go for a pink fabric with swirls I have.

Here's the pattern:

Still fighting a cold

Still have a head cold but I guess it's part seasonal allergies, too. It's making me SOOOOOO tired and other than a minimal amount of housework not much is getting done. I've tried a few different medicine and one for coughs and mucus seems to help the most. The DH is getting tired of hearing me cough and the snoring that's coming from not being able to breath well is keeping him up. I just remind him of when he snores and I have to move to the livingroom to get some sleep. I'm just glad I did get both my covid shots so I don't have to worry about going for one.

The pic above is of a begonia I got at Easter. Isn't it really pretty? Behind it are 2 kalanchoes and a poinsettia. I used to grow a lot of african violets but don't seem to be able to keep them alive anymore. I think the house is too dry in the winter for them.

I made 2 pincushions in the past month. I'm finding they come in handy when working on some jewelry patterns I've been designing. It's nice to be able to pin everything down so nothing falls off the table or gets mixed in with other projects. I wish I could keep my crafting table clear except for the project I'm currently working on, but since I tend to work on a lot of things that's not possible. I LOVE violets and during their blooming season try to keep small bottles and shot glasses filled with them. The embroidery was something I just free hand drew on the fabric. I followed a crazy quilt block pattern for the top from Pintangle. There are a lot of free block patterns and that's where the embroidery TAST group I do is found.

The second pincushion has a small piece of embroidery I made from directions at elefantz . Look in the tutorials section. BTW, she has a lot of free embroidery patterns and an etsy store.

Just a small selection of the eggs we get every day. We used to take the extras to a local foodbank but with covid we stopped going over there to drop them off. They get a lot of eggs donated now from stores. Friends and family can only use so many. We definitely have too many chickens and ducks. The DH just bought 4 more ducklings. He's crazy for birds. They just give me more stress and I have egg intolerance so I seldom eat them unless I'm baking with eggs. We lost one of the male ducks to a hawk. His name was Blade and he was a runner duck (hence the name Blade). Below is one of the comets, not sure which one. I was taking pics of the bleeding heart when she came over to see what was going on. They are very inquisitive.

I am trying to finish updating my old seahorse rider pattern. I made a LOT of changes to the pattern. Now there's only one version and the horse and doll are for advanced cloth doll makers. The original pattern was for sewers with some experience. I really like the new version and I know it's taken me more than 4 years to get her done. I had so much I wanted to do to the seahorse I finally realized if I made it easier I would get it finished. I do that a lot, design things that will be difficult to make, start them, and then set it aside when I realize it may be too hard for the average sewer to make.

I keep all my UFOs on the shelf with the crate that has the hearts stenciled on it. The crate and 2 shoe boxes have various doll projects as does the crate at the bottom of the pic with the stenciled pineapple and the box to the left of it.

In case you missed the post, this is a pic I shared last winter when I had a clean and tidy  of my craft closet. The shelf is larger than the door shows, it's over 4 feet and there are 2 rows of shelves above built in the 10 foot closet. All that really means is I have way too much craft supplies I don't and probably won't use. The plan is that when I feel better to start selling on ebay again. I have a lot of books and magazines on doll making, quilting, and lace making that I'm ready to let go of. Some of the supplies I'll sell and others I'm donating to the local humane society stores resale shop. I'll post here when I finally get moving on this.

Hope you are all feeling well. PLEASE get a covid shot and wear a mask so we can get back to some normalcy.

Another Free Embroidery for March

Here's the monthly embroidery for March. I always think of windy weather when March comes around. I've even designed a quilt block with kites for a club I used to belong to for their March project.

I appliqued 1 piece of fabric for the kite but you could do all 4 sections or just embroider the lines.  Maybe add a lazy daisy flower or 2. I couched the lines with all 6 floss threads. The tail is 2 strands black done in back stitch and then lazy daisy stitches added along it. The black back stitch from the tail go into making the h in March. All of the text is back stitched. The cloud is back stitched in light gray with a white running stitch inside. The sun circle is stem stitched, the points are back stitched, a straight line goes in each point, and a running stitch goes around the circle and the points. The heart is chain stitched with 2 rows of running stitch. The running stitches are used to attach the heart to the background fabric.

March Embroidery Freebie

Be Kind is something I really believe in SOOOOOOO much. That and have compassion towards others. I even have a ball cap with Bee Kind on it. Since my first name begins with 'B' and I'm always rushing about, I've always been called 'busy as a bee' by my Mom. It's an easy one and you'll see that the text is different on the embroidered piece and the pattern. I decided to write the words instead of tracing them. Feel free to do the same :)

I turned this embroidery into a fob that I hang on my purse. The back is a purple print and it's stuffed with a bit of polyfil. I hand sewed the purple ric-rac along the seam line and added more yellow beads.

It's late but here's the Feb. freebie

This has been done for a few weeks but I just haven't felt like getting on the computer. I've been reading Terry Pratchett's Disc World series because I just don't feel like making anything. Guess I'm feeling too over whelmed and there's never enough time in a day to do everything I want so I've just stopped doing most things. My DH took early retirement and now I seldom have time that's not interrupted with cooking, cleaning, and him asking questions. That's one reason I decided to do easy embroideries for each month.

There's more embroidery in this design than last month's freebie. I sewed buttons in the 3 hearts but you could add letters, embroidered flowers, or just leave them empty. If you are wondering how I did the wavy outline it just a running stitch that I went back and forth, from one side to the other, under the stitches. It's not wrapped just slid under the running stitch. The centers of the flowers are buttonhole going in a circle with a french knot in the center. The heart is chain stitches in green, the little hearts are stem stitched, and the rest is back stitched.

A January Free Embroidery

It's an easy to make design for this month. I don't know about you but I'm dealing with a bit of depression and just don't feel like getting online lately. That's how this month's freebie ended up so simple.

This has 3 small yo-yos and glass seed beads. I've sewn it to a 6' square of snowflake print fabric with a running stitch. The text is back stitched. The heart is done in chain stitch. The small snowflakes are cross stitch with a straight stitch down the center. A bead is sewn in the center.

I'm planning on making a heart for each month, sewing it to a 6" square then sew all 12 together with white borders.

Sorry if you've been trying to get in contact with me but I'm spending most of my time working on new designs. If you've been trying to contact me at Facebook I haven't spent much time there either.

I have turned on comments for this post and will try to remember to do it for all the posts for this year. I haven't had comments on for years because I truly fear getting trolled. If you don't like what I'm sharing for FREE just go away and find something you do like. Sorry for the mini vent but there's way too much meanness online and I honestly can't handle it with my panic attacks.

Two more free embroidery patterns!

I've made 2 more freebies to share. These a larger than the size I've been using for my hearts this year. If you want them smaller just set your printer to print at a smaller size.

The one on the right has pine chenille stems for the hanger. Perfect for large trees or hanging from a door knob. I curled the ends and sewed them to the sides of the stuffed heart, adding bows over the stitches. I stitched the text in green and red. The snowflakes are back stitched lines with silvery beads sewn where the dots are on the pattern. I also sewed beads on the stars in the fabric print. I bought this at Walmart last year. I love snowflake and candy cane prints!

The design on the left is for those who are happy this year is coming to an end. I had this candy print fabric that I used for the bowl (because haven't we all been eating too much of the stuff 😄 ), I then cut out some of the candy and using iron on facing I attached them. I didn't bother to sew them down since I'm not sure what I'll do with this yet.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Hope you all stay healthy!

December Embroidery Freebie!

Ok, here's a new freebie for you. It's a remake of one of the ones I did for VOTE.

I also printed a smaller version to put on my tree skirt. I've been making something for it every year I've been married. The text seemed perfect for this year.

Of course you can draw your own text since you may prefer Merry Christmas, Peace on Earth, LOVE, or even names. Have fun and enjoy the holidays.

A free embroidery pattern for November

So here we are getting closer and closer to the holidays. I do have some holiday designs in the works but I decided to post this one in my series of keep calm hearts. I made it last summer before I went a bit overboard with the VOTE designs. If you don't like the text you can change it to your own handwritten saying by not tracing my text and writing in your own. This would be cute done as a wedding or anniversary gift with names and dates. I chose to embroider bluebirds but make them in your color. If you want white for doves you should change the fabric to a color where the white floss will show unless you plan on using light grey for the stitching.

The swing, the lines below alone & together, and text are backstitched with 2 strands of floss.

The purple and green flowers are long lazy daisy with green straight stitches between them. I used all 6 strands for the daisys and 3 strands for the straight stitches and the french knot in the centers.

The pink flowers are lazy daisy with french knots for centers using 2 strands. The leaves/fern are feather stitch but fly would work, too. These are not drawn on the pattern so you can fill in the space with as many or few as you like. I also find drawing the stitches the ink tends to show.

The birds are done with 2 strands of floss. The body and hearts are back stitched. At the top of the head are short straight stitches. The tails long straight stitches with french knots on the tips. There are lazy daisies in the hearts and on the tail.

NOTE that this drawing shows a simple heart border of couched thread with beads, knots or just a small stitch. As I worked on the embroidery I kept adding more and more. Here's what the photo shows. The heart is couched with 3 strands of green floss held in place with pink. Next is 2 strands for back stitch. Third is stem stitch using 2 strands. Fourth is a running stitch again using 2 strands. Last is wrapping the running stitches with 2 strands of floss.

I know this is a lot of stitching so maybe leave off the flowers and use decorative buttons or beads if you want to make if quick.

Look for another next month and remember the patterns are only up for 1 month. This one will be removed on December 12. Eventually all the keep calm patterns will be sold at my Etsy store

Yeah, I'm still posting VOTE embroideries

It really is time to vote NOW, don't wait if your state has early voting because who knows what kind of craziness may happen at voting poles. I voted by mail but now worry "will it get counted?". This is a crazy year full of shocking things happening, so maybe keep calm and keep stitching.

This one only uses 2 colors of thread, black and yellow. The stitches are chain to outline the heart with a running stitch outside of that. The clock is also chain stitch. The text is back stitch including the numbers. The clock hands are chain with an outline of stem stitch. For the long lines I did a straight stitch but for the short lines I used seed beads. I set the clock at 8 but you can trace the hands wherever you like. I need to remake this with hands at 12 and 2021 as the text. Nice design for New Years, too.

Right click the pattern to save it to you hard drive. You'll need to print a pattern for tracing at 100%.

A new stitch-a-long freebie for the month

Here's number 4 in my keep calm series, get it while you can :) It's free for the month and will be removed when I put up the next one. Last month's stitchery is still up and will stay up for free.

I traced this design using a Micron pen. When it came time to do the leaves, I just did dots where the top and bottom would be. They are not all drawn on the pattern so you can be free to add as many or few as you like. I did a few at the top so you could see the sizes I made them. Leave them off if you don't like them.

I was going thru my older thread boxes and found I had a lot of Ginnie Thompson and DMC flower threads so decided to use some. DMC stopped making them but you can still buy the Ginnie threads. The Ginnie Thompson site says one strand of flower thread is equal to 2 strands of embroidery floss.

Here's an explanation of the stitches I did. Since I don't want to type Ginnie Thompson over and over I'll be using GT for it. The heart is done in GT 463 thread using a chain stitch. The dots on the heart are 3 wrap French knots using 2 strands GT275. The flowers are buttonhole stitches made with GT 290. The centers are 2 strands DMC 2748 4 wrap French knots. The leaves are 2 strands GT 463 to make the lazy daisy stitches. The text is GT 457, 1 strand doing back stitch. I added sheer pink and green seed beads around the flowers.

Sorry if you didn't get the first 2 patterns. Look for another next month and remember the patterns are only up for 1 month. This one will be up for free until Sept. 1 and then it will be replaced with a new one.Click on the drawing then right click to save it to your hard drive.

It's late but for a good reason - the monthly freebie

This has been a changing and challenging time for most of us. I had an embroidery all ready to post weeks ago but after seeing so much about how we need change in this world to stop hate, I had to design a new heart. Love and peace leads to understanding which creates unity. I think this heart would be fantastic done in rainbow colors, too.

I used DMC floss for the embroidery. Here are the colors and stitches I used:
the heart - 2 strands of green 3346, chain stitch
the loop - same thread but stem stitch, then wrapped with 2 strands of 603 pink
the dots on the heart 3 strands 742 yellow gold, french knots
the flower vine - 2 strands 3348 green, feather stitch(starting at sides and meeting at loop); at each tip - 2 strands 603 pink, french knots
vine flowers - 3 strands variegated yellow 90, lazy daisy; fill in the flowers with 2 strands of 603 pink, straight stitch; at the base of each flower - 2 strands 3348 green, french knots
flowers in loop - 3 strands 603 pink, 5 petal lazy daisy with 2 strands 90 variegated yellow french knots; leaves - 2 strands 3348 green, lazy daisy
text - 2 strands black, back stitch; dots on text - 2 strands 742 yellow gold, french knots

I won't be taking this heart down. It will stay on the blog for free. Here's the pattern:

Right click on the drawing to save it to your computer.

I didn't add the flowers to this pattern so you could make your favorite ones or do the ones I did. Another option if you want to do a rainbow veraion is to skip the flower vine and keep outlining the heart with a variety of colors, or just do all the french knots in rainbow colors. Instead of flower inside the loop, you could add a bird charm or 2, turn it into a peace sign, or fill it in with multi colors of beads and french knots. I just may have to take my own suggestions and make another in rainbow :)

Edited 7-11-20
Ok, I made the rainbow version and wanted to share the pic of what I did. I used my collection of rainbow fabrics for inspiration for the colors.

Sorry if you didn't get last month's pattern. Look for another next month and remember the patterns are only up for 1 month except for this one. This one will be up for free for as long as the blog is up.

Next free pattern in the keep calm series

Here's number 2 in my keep calm series. It will be free until June 24th so get it while you can :)

I traced this design using a Micron pen in sepia. When it came time to do the butterfly dashes, I just did dots. You may want to leave them off and free-style the dashes. I did the same with the dashes around the heart.. I traced the rest of the pattern as shown.

Here's an explanation of the stitches I did. The most obivious difference is the outline stitches. Instead of the dashes I couched floss. This was easy to do since I just made small dots with my pen. The heart was done in chain stitch. The butterfly has 2 rows of outline/stem stitch, single feather stitches in the wings, and tiny single straight stitches for the antennae. The center of the flowers are buttonhole wheels, the petals are filled with straight stitches and French knots. The petals, leaves, and text are done in back stitch.

I'm having trouble with my printer. It's smearing everything I print on fabric. This all-in-one is not as good as my old Canon that was just a printer. I don't know if it's the way the fabric/paper is pulled thru or if it's the ink I'm using but it's driving my crazy.

In case you missed my post on the drawing classes I've been taking I wanted to mention #johannabasford, Johanna's web site again. My design was inspired by her classes. She's doing a live class Monday thru Friday on her Facebook page. They are about 1/2 hour. Some are drawing and some are coloring. There are more free classes and printables on her site on the Happy Place page. The drawings she's sharing would be fun to do as embroideries if you wanted to work on something larger.

Sorry if you didn't get last month's pattern. Look for another next month and remember the patterns are only up for 1 month. This one will be up for free until June 24 and then it will be replaced with a new one.Click on the drawing then right click to save it to your hard drive.

Ideas for the 1st keep calm embroidery pattern -

I've been trying to decide what to do with this series of embroideries. I'm thinking of bordering them with dotted fabrics that match the colors in the embroidery. For this one I got out my collection of yellows, golds, and added a green. The reason I'm working with dots is because I'm thinking of sewing all the embroidery pieces to a white tote bag. Using dots for all the design gives it a matched look rather than scrappy even with the different colors and sizes of dots.

Other ideas I came up with was to put each one in an embroidery hoop, add some ribbon, beads and other things. Then I could hang them on the wall or give as gifts. I also thought of making pincushions or sachet bags with them. My last idea was to sew this sunflower design to a piece of sunflower fabric I have and turn it in to a small wallhanging.

This might be an option, too. I designed this 4 sided bag for my summer tatting pattern. You can find it at my etsy store.

Maybe after I finish the 4 I have designed I'll have a better idea of what to do with them. I'll be finishing design 2 this evening.

Free embroidery pattern for a month

This pattern is no longer a freebie. Look for one every month around the 24th.When the new one goes up the old comes down so make sure to get it before it's gone ;)

---------------------------------------------------

I'm taking a break on the sewing embroideries and doing some to remind us to keep calm. The cross stitch community is doing a series called #bewell so I thought I design something for people who prefer regular embroidery. I'm not sure how many there will be in this series. So far I have 2 done and have 2 more drawn but not stitched.

I chose to outline stitch most of the the design. The first version I did I fully embroidered each area. I'd show that one but I made a lot of changes to the design. I wanted something that could be done in a few evenings and the first version wasn't like that. I didn't add the lines on the sunflower leaves so you can stitch them like I did in the pic above or do them however you like.

I'm having trouble with my printer. It's smearing everything I print on fabric. This all-in-one is not as good as my old Canon that was just a printer. I don't know if it's the way the fabric/paper is pulled thru or if it's the ink I'm using but it's driving my crazy.

I traced this design using a Micron pen in sepia. When it came time to do the bee dashes, I just did dots. You may want to leave them off and free-style the dashes. The tiny dots on the edges of the heart are done with french knots but beads would be really good for them. Same for the pink clusters of french knots on the vine. For the center of the sunflower I did some tiny rice stitches. They are basically mini straight stitches. I surrounded them with 2 rows of french knots, one brown and one gold. Most everything is done in back stitch. I did the vine stems in stem stitch and the heart is very tiny chain stitch.

This one will be up for free until May 24 and then it will be replaced with a new one.Click on the drawing then right click to save it to your hard drive.
